Alpha HPA has been featured as a case study in Australia’s first National Semiconductor Roadmap, recognising the critical role Australian-made high purity materials play in global semiconductor supply chains.

The case study profiles Alpha HPA’s proprietary solvent extraction purification technology and production of ultra-high purity alumina in Gladstone, Queensland. It highlights applications for Alpha HPA’s materials in semiconductor manufacturing and thermal packaging for AI data centres, with end users across Korea, Japan, Taiwan and the United States.

Shaping Australia’s Semiconductor Future, released today by the Semiconductor Sector Service Bureau (S3B), sets out a long-term vision for building Australia’s semiconductor capability, competitiveness and participation in global supply chains. The Roadmap identifies four areas where Australia can build comparative advantage: materials, technologies, manufacturing services, and products and applications.

For Alpha HPA, the focus on materials is particularly significant. The Roadmap identifies semiconductor-grade inputs and advanced materials as a priority capability area, with opportunities to refine and process more of these materials onshore. Rather than seeking to replicate the entire semiconductor value chain, it calls for Australia to focus on areas where it has demonstrated research or commercial strengths and can become a trusted international supplier.

The Roadmap points to Alpha HPA as an example of that approach in action. It highlights the Company’s staged scale-up in Gladstone, from its operating Stage One facility to Stage Two, now under construction, and its commercialisation of Australian-owned and developed intellectual property in Australia. More than 200 stakeholders contributed to the development of the Roadmap.

Alpha HPA Executive Director and Chief Commercial Officer Rimas Kairaitis said the Roadmap provided important recognition of the capability already being developed in Australia.

“Australia has an opportunity to build a secure position in global semiconductor supply chains by focusing on the areas where we have genuine capability and competitive strengths.”

“For Alpha HPA, that means taking Australian-developed process technology, commercialising it here in Australia and producing the ultra-high purity materials increasingly required by semiconductor and advanced technology markets globally.”

“We welcome the launch of the National Semiconductor Roadmap and the focus it brings to building on Australia’s existing strengths. We’re proud of the pioneering role of Alpha HPA in supporting the semiconductor supply chain with Australian process technology.”
