Australian technology and advanced manufacturing company Alpha HPA has highlighted the opportunity for Australia to build globally competitive industries through innovation, collaboration and investment during an address last night to national industry leaders in Sydney.
Alpha HPA Managing Director Rob Williamson joined representatives from across Australian industry at the Australian Chamber of Commerce and Industry (ACCI) Boardroom Event, delivered in partnership with Business Sydney and Australian Made, alongside Senator the Hon Tim Ayres, Minister for Industry and Innovation.
Speaking at the event, Mr Williamson shared Alpha HPA’s experience commercialising Australian-developed technology and establishing a new advanced manufacturing capability in Central Queensland.
“Global supply chains are being redrawn, geopolitical uncertainty continues to influence investment decisions, and countries around the world are competing aggressively for the industries that will define the next generation of economic growth,” Mr Williamson said.
“But Australia has every reason to be confident. We have a world-class endowment of resources, outstanding research capability, highly skilled people and a reputation as one of the world's most trusted trading partners.
“At Alpha HPA, we have experienced first-hand what is possible when those elements align.”
Mr Williamson said Alpha HPA’s growth demonstrated Australia’s ability to move beyond traditional resource exports and create high-value products for global markets.
“After 10 years of technology development, grit, determination, innovation and a significant hustle, the result is a company delivering advanced manufactured materials from Gladstone to customers in Japan, Korea and the United States,” Mr Williamson said.
“Australia has the opportunity to move beyond exporting raw materials to producing the high-value products the world increasingly demands.”
Mr Williamson acknowledged the important role of government, industry and investors in supporting the next generation of Australian manufacturing.
“If we are serious about developing globally competitive industries, attracting capital must remain a shared priority,” he said.
“The nations that succeed will be those that can bring governments, financiers and industry together quickly, confidently and at scale.”
Mr Williamson said Australia had the capability to establish more globally competitive industries.
“The opportunity ahead is significant, but it requires all parts of the ecosystem working together,” he said.
“Industry, government, researchers and investors all have a role to play, but success will require the confidence to invest, the courage to innovate and the ambition to build globally competitive industries here in Australia.”
