Alpha HPA continues to expand its capability to supply high purity alumina materials to the semiconductor industry, with the most recent customer test results and Letter of Intent to meet the surging demand from AI-driven data centres and next-generation power electronics.

The semiconductor sector is experiencing record-breaking growth, driven by artificial intelligence (AI), cloud computing, and power semiconductors critical to the global energy transition. Alpha HPA is positioning itself as a leading supplier, with its novel process technology delivering the unique capability to supply the demanding specifications  for key industry applications.

Recent Chemical Mechanical Planarization (CMP) testing has confirmed that Alpha HPA’s proprietary particle shape and impurity profile are unlocking superior performance potential.

This news follows confirmation in January, that the company’s HPA products offer exceptional thermal conductivity and purity which is essential for semiconductor thermal interface materials where reliability is non-negotiable.

Alpha HPA Managing Director Rob Williamson highlighted the company’s focus on the semiconductor sector, citing strong demand signals from AI data centre expansion and power electronics.

“The semiconductor sector is a key focus for the Commercial team, with attractive pricing and demand pull from significant AI data centre growth and power electronics.  Alpha HPA’s technology is enabling our products to outperform in both the CMP slurry and thermal interface packaging applications, which is leading to the recent Letters of Intent we are seeing coming from this space.” Mr Williamson said.

End-user CMP test work on silicon carbide (SiC) substrates has demonstrated Alpha HPA’s material outperforms existing CMP abrasives, achieving over 50% higher removal rates while maintaining final substrate smoothness. These results translate to faster polishing cycles and improved material efficiency for CMP users, driving significant cost and time savings.

Following these results, Alpha HPA has secured a Letter of Intent (LOI) for commercial volumes of its HPA from both its Stage One facility in Gladstone, Queensland, commencing in 2025 and 2026. And also, for the company’s larger Stage Two facility, set to launch in 2027.

The LOI underscores market confidence in Alpha HPA’s ability to deliver high-quality, consistent materials that align with the evolving needs of the semiconductor sector. These developments help cement Alpha HPA’s role as a key player in a rapidly expanding market fuelled by AI, data centres, and power semiconductors reshaping the global energy landscape.
