Alpha HPA has released its inaugural Sustainability Performance Report, showcasing how the company is building a cleaner, smarter supply chain for high-purity alumina and related aluminium products – critical to future-facing technologies including semiconductors, electric vehicle batteries and direct lithium extraction (DLE).
Managing Director Rob Williamson said the report reflects Alpha HPA’s commitment: to deliver ultra-high purity aluminium products in a way that makes both environmental and commercial sense.
“That thinking has shaped every decision – from the way we design our processes, to how we engage with partners, communities and the markets we serve,” Mr Williamson said.
The release of the report comes as Australia prepares to introduce mandatory sustainability reporting standards next year.
"With new standards taking effect in 2026, we used 2025 to build a clear understanding of the requirements so we can deliver full compliance from day one – with a strong foundation to grow from,” Mr Williamson said.
Unlike traditional production, Alpha HPA’s approach is designed for circularity from the outset. Its proprietary Smart SX Technology™ dramatically reduces energy use, waste and emissions. Stage Two of the company’s HPA First Project in Gladstone – now under construction – will be the world’s largest facility of its kind, running entirely on renewable electricity.
“Our extraction and refining technology reduce the energy, emissions and waste typically associated with specialty aluminium materials production. That efficiency isn’t just good for the environment – it’s a competitive advantage for our customers. It lowers costs, increases resilience and positions us to meet the growing global demand across semiconductors, batteries and advanced manufacturing.
The report highlights Alpha HPA’s performance across environmental, social and governance (ESG) areas, including:
- Cutting emissions and waste: Smart SX Technology™ enables a low-carbon, low-waste process for producing ultra-high purity aluminium materials.
- Powered by renewables: Stage Two of the HPA First Project in Gladstone will be the world’s largest manufacturing facility of high purity aluminium materials, operating entirely on renewable electricity.
- Investing locally: More than $8 million directed to the Gladstone region in FY25 through local suppliers, education programs and community partnerships.
- Respectful partnerships: The launch of Alpha HPA’s Indigenous Engagement Strategy to create employment, training and business opportunities with First Nations people.
- Recognition for innovation: Winner of the 2024 Gladstone Engineering Alliance Innovator Award for Smart SX Technology and its role in reducing energy use and waste in aluminium production.
- Diversity and inclusion: Nearly 40 percent female participation across the company – from entry-level roles through to the board – achieved on a merit basis and far exceeding manufacturing industry averages.
“This report shows, in black and white, the choices we’ve made, the challenges we face and the kind of company we are building to service these fast-paced technology sectors,” Mr Williamson said.
