Alpha HPA, in coordination with Economic Development Queensland (EDQ) and local fire authorities, supported the safe completion of a slow hazard reduction burn at the southern-end of our HPA First Project in Gladstone. This proactive land management activity helps reduce bushfire risk and supports the safety of the surrounding community and nearby industrial operations.

Recent hot weather and increased vegetation growth following rainfall created the need for controlled fuel-load reduction. EDQ led the burn as part of its environmental and safety obligations, with Alpha HPA and contractors assisting on-site.

SAFETY AND ENVIRONMENTAL MANAGEMENT

A series of precautions were implemented to ensure the burn was completed safely:

  • Temporary removal of traffic management controls to prevent heat-related damage
  • Firebreaks and easement markers to be reinstated before construction and hauling activity resumes
  • Health alerts issued for personnel with respiratory sensitivities due to potential smoke exposure

POSITIVE OUTCOMES

The hazard reduction burn was delivered safely and without incident. Following the operation, real-time dust monitoring commenced to help manage silica risk and verify site conditions.

The coordinated approach between EDQ, Alpha HPA and contractors reflects strong shared commitment to safe operations and environmental stewardship in the Gladstone State Development Area.

NEXT STEPS

  • Road maintenance and reinstatement of traffic signage will occur before normal access resumes
  • Ongoing air-quality monitoring to support safe conditions for all workers and contractors

Alpha HPA acknowledges the efforts of the construction team, EDQ and our contracting partners for their professionalism and high safety standards throughout this activity.
