Alpha HPA has awarded the concrete works contract for its Gladstone-based Stage Two HPA First Project to local civil construction company, McCosker Contracting – a major milestone in the full-scale build of the company’s high-purity alumina facility.

The substantial contract of more than $20 million will see McCosker deliver all major concrete works for the facility, drawing on their local resource pool. This significant agreement underscores Alpha HPA's commitment to investing in local industry and is set to create valuable opportunities within the region.

Once constructed, the facility will be the world's largest single-site manufacturing facility for high-purity aluminium materials. The 10-hectare, state-of-the-art facility will leverage Alpha HPA’s established Stage One operation and proudly utilise our Australian-owned and developed process IP.

Alpha HPA’s proprietary technology enables the production of ultra-high purity aluminium materials that are low-carbon, cost-competitive, and essential to the global energy transition. The process extracts aluminium from industrial feedstocks and purifies it to exceptional levels, serving high-tech sectors such as semiconductors, lithium-ion batteries, and LED lighting.

Alpha HPA Managing Director Rob Williamson said the appointment continues the company’s strong focus on regional partnerships.

“McCosker is a respected, long-standing family business with deep roots in the Gladstone community,” Mr Williamson said. “It’s fantastic to be working with the trusted folks at McCosker to help bring this world-class project to life.”

McCosker Managing Director Bob McCosker said the company is excited to play a key role in a project with long-term significance for the region.

“We’re proud to see a project of this calibre happening right here in our own backyard,” Mr McCosker said. “It’s a vote of confidence in local capability, and we’re looking forward to contributing our team’s skills, experience and local knowledge to help bring Alpha HPA’s vision to life. For us, it’s about more than just delivering concrete – it’s about playing our part in building a stronger future for Gladstone.”

The concrete and civil works are set to begin with site establishment in early June, followed by the commencement of physical works later the same month, bringing considerable economic benefits and job opportunities to the Gladstone region.

At full scale, the site will be capable of producing over 10,000 tonnes of high-purity aluminium products per year, creating 120 ongoing local jobs in addition to the 300 jobs supported during construction.

“We are proud to leverage homegrown innovation to create a facility that can compete on the world stage,” Mr Williamson added. “This project is a testament to the incredible potential of Australian technology and the substantial economic benefits it can deliver to the Gladstone community.”

The HPA First Project will produce high-purity alumina and related materials critical to lithium-ion batteries, LED lighting, and the clean energy technologies driving global decarbonisation.

Alpha HPA has secured a $400 million debt facility from the Australian Government and raised $180 million in equity to support the delivery of the Stage Two facility.

 Ends.
